An intruder takes over your server. What happens… nothing.
We assume the worst case: someone has full control of your server, including the access our program uses. Even then:

only - Our program on your server cannot delete anything. Not even with the right passwords.
- Locked
- The storage is locked for the entire retention period. Not even we can remove it sooner.
- Separate
system - Clean-up happens far from your server, and every deletion is recorded.
- 72 hours
- Switching off backups or shortening retention only takes effect after three days, and everyone is notified.
- Alarm
- Suddenly a lot of "new" data? That is what encryption looks like. We raise the alarm and keep everything longer.

Where your data lives

By default your encrypted blocks go to the object storage of Cubixion, our storage partner. A Belgian provider, infrastructure in Belgium and Germany, European law and nothing else. You are welcome to visit, by the way: the data centre door is open to customers.

- Object lock in compliance mode, for the full retention period. Nobody can delete, not Cubixion and not us.
- No egress fees
- Reading is free at Cubixion. That is why we can really restore every night without your invoice moving.
- Two locations
- If you wish, a second copy goes to a second, independent EU location. A fire in one does not touch the other.
- Or your own bucket
- Prefer your own S3 storage? That works too. Then we only see encrypted blocks that you keep yourself.
